VG++.No owner inscrptn.Bright,crisp,clean, sharp-cornered,publisher's original,blue cloth boards/covers with bright,crisp,3-colour (bLack,white,red and blue background) blocked illustration/decorated to front board+spine/backstrip,with bright,crisp black ink lettering to front, and b/w lettering to spine,rear panel plain and undecorated and clean plain beige eps.Negligible shelf-wear,bumping, creasing to edges and corners - no nicks, tears,splits or fraying present,head+foot of spine/backstrip with minimal bumping and reciprocal creasing,whilst hinges are solid and sound with no cracking.Top edges with very few,very tiny and very faint - barely discernible foxing spots,fore-edges also with very few foxing spots and both sets are very lightly aged/toned - much less than normally encountered or would expect for a book of its age; contents bright,tight,clean - text body unusually, remarkably and exceptionally clean - there are considerably more pages without foxing /spotting than with - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners,would appear unread - apart from my own collation.UK, 8vo HB,1st edn,5-256pp [paginated] includes contents list/table,XXVIII (28) chapters,all 5 illustrations (a colour frntis+4 b/w plates) by Edward S. Hodgson - all called for and present,interspersed throughout the text and the book,plus [unpaginated] page-edge toned and foxed/ spotted half-title,colour illustrated frntis,minimally foxed title page, concomitant and reciprocal foxing/ spotting from title page,to the following: contents and illustrations lists/tables, but in decreasing degrees.A really exceptional example with minimal faults and bright,sharp colour decoration and overall appearance - it really is the best I've seen,and have yet to handle anything better than this! Boys' adventure fiction,a WW1 Royal Navy story. . Percy Francis Westerman was a British author and journalist.Specifically,he wrote scores of books for boys and was,in the 1930s,outstandingly the most popular writer in that particular genre.Westerman wrote his first book in 1908,when he was 32.His last came out in May,1959,three months after he died.In all,170-odd books, plus a torrent of articles and short stories. Edward S. Hodgson (active 1908-36). Landscape painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy and lived at Bushey, Hertfordshire (Herts.).An illustrator of boys' adventure stories in pen and ink, halftone and full colour.He was the illustrator for Westerman's first and debut novel 'A Lad of Grit.' and several others too.He also contributed illustrations to contemporary periodicals and magazines: The Captain,Chums,The Girls' Realm,Herbert Strang's Annual and The Quiver.
