Under Milk Wood was first broadcast by the B.B.C. on 25th January 1954, with a repition two days later. Extracts from it were read at the Globe Theatre evening of 'Homage to Dylan Thomas' on 24th january, and at the Memorial Recital at the Royal Festival Hall on 14th February.A complete stage reading of the play was presented at the Old Vic Theatre on 28th February and 7th March.
