Dimensions 11 x 8 inches. Black and green ink, vignette of steam locomotive, decorative border. Fold Lines, purple "Canceled" stamp, two diamond shaped punch holes. Some darkening on left border. No. 2712, this certificate was originally issued to F. A. Bradley on September 6, 1887. Signed by the President, "W. Birch Dumau" and the Secretary, "___ Walsh". The Mobile & Ohio Railroad was first chartered in 1848 to provide railroad service from Mobile, Alabama, to the Ohio River at Cairo, Illinois. It reached Columbus, Kentucky, on the Mississippi River in 1861. It was appropriated for military use during the Civil War and was almost completely destroyed and went into receivership. It emerged in 1883, after having built the extension to Cairo, and acquired the St. Louis and Cairo Railroad, so now it had a line all the way from Mobile to St. Louis. The railroad ran into trouble during the Great Depression, and was eventually merged with the Gulf, Mobile and Northern Railroad to form the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad in 1940.. Book.
