Original publisher's orange wrappers. The illustration on the front cover is by Wilfred Jones and shows a woman holding a fan and wearing an ornate dress with a hoop skirt. 6 3/4" x 10." 214 pages, complete. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. The covers have slight chipping along the edges. Small closed tear at the bottom edge of the front cover measuring about 3/4." Scribner's Magazine was first published in 1887 by Charles Scribner's Sons. It was a general-interest magazine and covered a variety of subjects, but it tended to have a literary bent. Its competitors were Harper's Monthly and the Atlantic Monthly. The magazine was also notable for its engravings and color illustrations. The last issue of Scribner's Magazine was released in May 1939. The main part of magazine is located on Pages 113-226 in the middle. 100 additional pages in the front and back comprise the remaining parts of the magazine including advertisements. The ads promote a variety of products; some of the ads are detailed and about books; others promote everyday products. A few of the ads are in color, including ads for Davey Tree Surgeons, Camel cigarettes, and Chesterfield cigarettes.
