Title translates to “In the Course of Years. ” Shalom-Shmuel Schwarzbard (1886-1938) was a Russian-born French Yiddish poet of Jewish descent. He served in the French and Soviet military, was a bolshevik, and is known for his assassination of the Ukrainian national leader Symon Petliura while in Paris. His trial was highly publicized and he claimed to have killed Petliura in retribution for the pogroms in Ukraine. He was eventually acquitted (Wikipedia, 2018) .
