Turner and John Constable. By the 1810s the widespread habit of painting in oil and watercolour from nature had led some British landscape painters to aspire to create a direct naturalism of a kind unprecedented in the history of British art, though by the 1820s the practice of taking oil paints into the countryside had effectivelydisappeared. This book explores the development, variety and innovation of this important phenomenon. Taking oil paints into the countryside was something very new for British art. These departures are explored in detail here by art historians Michael Rosenthal and Anne Lyles, alongside full-colour illustrations on ninety oil paintings from Tate's substantial collection.                    Please contact seller, for correct shipping/P+p quotes - particularly ALL overseas customers - BEFORE ordering through the order page!          N.B.
