537 pages (complete). From the private library of arborist, H B Nicholson (whose signature is found on the front pastedown). The spine has a Dewey classification label. Special Subscribers' Edition. Numbered 34 of a limited edition of 600 copies. Signed by the author on the certification page. The book has been covered in bubblewrap plastic! This is confidently secure. There is some wear. The boards are a little scuffed with some shelving wear to edges and corners. Within, the frontis and end papers have residue marks from scotch tape. The papertrims have light handling marks. The contents are in contented, most pleasing condition. There is some very, very mild top corner wear from handling. Dustjacket front panel at some time separated and now repaired along the front spine hinge with white tape to reverse; small 3mm strip missing at head of spine band; 4cm closed tear to back panel from bottom edge close to spine hinge; now in loose protective plastic overwrap. Internally clean and tightly bound. Paperblock top edge is gilt. Red rexine covered boards with gilt aloe to front board and spine and titling to spine. Collectors' authentication slip tipped in at half-title page; signed by author. Subscriber's original purchasing cheque loosely inserted. Pages xxii + 537. The total number of species recorded herein is 197, each of which is carefully described and illustrated in black and white. In addition there are no fewer that 106 beautiful colour reproductions. The text is in simple language throughout and technical terms have been reduced to a minimum. With these facilities the plant lover should have little difficulty in recognising and naming flowering Aloes from the area covered, whether they be in the field or in a private garden.
