David James Rees,C.B.E, is one of the most remarkable figures in the golfing world. He was born at Barry,Glamorgan,on 31st March,1913,and on leaving school joined his father as an assistant professional.Winner of almost every golf tournament played in Britain, and quite a few overseas,Dai Rees won the Assistant's
Championship in 1935-36.In the latter year he also won the P.G.A Championship or the News of the World Tournament as it was then.He won it three times more and has also been runner-up three times. The only major event which has escaped him is the Open Championship in which he finished second three times. But it is his record as a Ryder Cup player which is perhaps his most amazing achievement. All told he has played for Britain on nine occasions, his first appearance being as far back as 1937.He has captained the side four times and was the leader in the victorious match at Lindrick in 1957.He also represented Wales in the Canada Cup matches.
