Buy this book on-line R.A.KNOX : Juxta SalicesAlden & Co. Ltd., Bocardo Press, Oxford, 1910
First Edition (first printing) of the author's most uncommon second (?) book. 8vo. 88pp. Blue cloth lettered in gold at the spine and upper board. Spine ends rubbed, endpapers spotted and lightly browned. A tiny dealer plate to the base of the front pastedown. A very crisp and bright copy. A printed dedication "To all Old Etonians, Good Churchman and Smokers of Briar Pipes" precedes a selection of seventeen poems and five prose pieces, including the lengthy Sherlockian 'A Decalogue Symposium' which features both Holmes and Watson. Knox and his three brothers (signing themselves 'The Sign of Four') wrote to Conan Doyle in 1904 pointing out a series of inconsistencies in his detective stories, and it has been hypothesised that this letter served as the backdrop for his Decalogue, which was originally written for performance by a Balliol literary society..
