'Lakeland Panorama' is the 12th book of W.A. Poucher's superb colour pictures, and
a companion volume to 'The Lake District and Lakeland fells'.For more than half-a century Walter Poucher was Britain's leading mountain photographer. He died in 1988 at the age of 96.His son John Poucher, who took over the large collection
of his father's colour transparencies three years earlier, has selected from it,
100 stunning pictures of one of Britain's most beautiful and best-loved regions. It is an area he knows well; he first visited it with his father as a child, and now lives there in his retirement. The pictures are arranged,as in the previous books, starting in the east of the region and finishing in the west. The brief captions identify crag and lake, and often locate the viewpoint from which the picture was taken. They also often suggest walks which interested readers can take across the fells and beside the streams pictured in the book.
W.A. Poucher spent much of his long life walking in Britain's hills and dales, and photographing them exclusively: he also worked in the Alps,Dolomites, and the Rockies, both American and Canadian. Some of his guides to walking in Britain's mountains have been in print for more than
twenty years, and his large-format books of beautiful colour pictures have also been phenomenally successful. One of 12 (then 1989) large-format books/titles published by Constable, by this author, each containing 100 colour photographs with accompanying text.See also,rja25197 [WALES] and rja25207 [THE WEST COUNTRY.] for either other titles in this series or other author/subject related titles/books.
