" "Henryk Nussbaum (1849 1937) was a Polish neurologist, physiologist, philosopher, doctor and journalist" (Wikipedia, 2017) "During World War I, Nussbaum, a successful physician, professor at the University of Warsaw, and son of the assimilationist historian and communal worker Hilary Nussbaum (18201895) , edited and published the assimilationist monthly Rozwaga (Reflection, 19151916) . Its editorial line represented a turning point in the assimilationist position in Poland. It started not with the questionWhat is good for the Jews? but with the questionWhat is good for Poland? Seeking to placate Polish nationalists who feared that the absorption of Jews would damage the Polish nation and Polish culture, it argued that the opposite was true, that the absorption of 2 million Jews would benefit Poland and not alter its essential character. The goal, it suggested, was the total immersion of Jews. Soon after Poland gained independence, Nussbaum himself converted" (YIVO, 2017) OCLC lists 3 copies worldwide (NLI, British Library, NLPoland) , none in the US. Ex-library with usual markings.
