Iris Murdoch [15 July 1919 - 8 February 1999] was a British novelist and philosopher,and born in Phisborough, Dublin,Ireland.In 1987,she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.A BOOKER Prize winner,1978 for 'The Sea,The Sea.'
Primarily her novels focus on themes of morality,spirituality and sexuality.A prominent philosopher,she is now increasingly accredited for her work in the field of philosophy,having a substantial role in postwar Anglo-American philosophy,and most notably her work on the reinterpretation of Aristotle and Plato,as well as her discussions of moral philosophy.
In her lifetime Murdoch wrote 26 novels, as well of a series of short stories and several philosophical papers.
