323 pages (complete). Maschwitz's second novel (the first was the massively successul "A Taste of Honey"). Eric Maschwitz was a spectacularly well connected entertainment, film-man, broadcaster. His Headmaster at Repton was Geoffrey Fisher (who became Archbishop of Canterbury) and a housemaster was Victor Gollancz. He was married to Hermione Gingold, wrote the song "These Foolish Things" whilst he was married to her although this was coincidence. Among his film successes was his co-writing the film script for "Goodbye Mr Chips". All this followed this early novel. The cover is very tatty and scruffy. It worn all about. The covers are stained, worn, marked and scuffed. However, they are tenacious and are resolute. The spine, despite its wear, is solid and supple. The contents are relaxed and softened from use but are tight against the spine. There are freckles of markings through the book but none of which affect the clarity and companionability of the novel. The pages are genial, comfortable. A rare copy. fk. Book Condition: Poor. Binding: Hardcover. Jacket: No Jacket Click here for full details of this book, to ask a question or to buy it on-line.
