[xl]330[2]249[3]pp. First edition. A thoughtful and lengthy argument that all that is evil in the Church, such as the Inquisition, simony, and clerical misbehaviour, comes from the Papacy and the Cardinals, the solution being to abolish the Papacy, returning the Church to its original and scriptural simplicity. According to the "Avertisement" at the end, the manuscript was unfinished due to the ill-health of the anonymous author, an "homme de qualite et scavant." Other Pierre Marteau titles tend to be anticlerical, politically inflammatory or scandalous. (Brunet: Imprimeurs Imaginaires.)
