Includes 1-page biography of the artist that refers to him as “Jacques Pailés,” but he is now generally known as Isaac. “Pailes (1895–1978) was a French painter. Born in Russia, Pailes went to Paris at the age of 22. After years of struggle, he achieved success. His original training as a sculptor can be discerned in his work. The subject matter is largely limited to clowns, still lifes, and vistas of France.” (Jewish Virtual Library, 2017) He is largely associated with the School of Paris (l’École de Paris).
