With a magnificent double-spread title-page lithograph by Piper, and profusely illustrated with photographs, paintings and illustrations, many full page. Former owner name and motif inked to the front free endpaper (and a printed letter laid-in explaining the provenance). A very good copy in very good non-price-clipped dust wrapper which reproduces the lithographic title page decoration, and is just a little rubbed at the spine ends and corner tips and with a single area of internal taped reinforcement. A two-page foreword by the author precedes eleven essays ("intended to elucidate the pictures, not the other way about"), mostly revised from their original periodical appearances; with two completely rewritten..
