"Fur Frau Frieda Sichel einer meine verstandnisvollsten horerin, in Erinnerung an ein (Indecipherable) vergangene Welt. Mit herzlichen grussen Karl Jaspers" Frieda Sichel (1889-1976) was a celebrated Jewish Social activist who emigrated to South Africa in 1935. She was part of a circle which included Karl Jaspers, Max Weber and Georg Lukacs in 1915 while a student. In her book "Chalenge of the Past" (1975), Sichel recounts her memories of Jaspers on pp. 63/64, and refers to this book "The last I heard of this remarkable man, then in his eighties, was a handwritten inscription in his last publication "Existenz-Philosophie" which reads "To Mrs. Frieda Sichel, one of my appreciative listeners, in memory of a bygone world, with heartiest greetings, (signed) Karl Jaspers" Basle 18th May 1967".
