Buy this book on-line Ingram, J Forsyth : The Story of an African CityC. Coester, Maritzburg, 1898
196 pages of text and illustrations plus pages of local advertising (complete). An early history of Pietermaritzburg by one of the Natal Colony's most adventurous pioneers. A much owned and improperly stored book. The book is tight and scruffily dignified. The red cover has attractive titling. The covers are worn, scuffed, rubbed, marked, knocked. Yet, they are stubbornly resolute and companionable. The spine is cracked and worn, it is secure and strong. The gutterings along both inside covers have been repaired. The early pages have handling and storage marks and wear, but they retain a formal certainty. The balance of the binding is imperfect but the contents are very assured and tight. The pages are generally clean, clear, benign, generous, competent, genial and reassuring. An aged book with great charm. fk. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Hardcover.
