Original billhead (Statement of Account) printed in black ink on light beige paper. Also includes handwriting in black ink. Datelined June 30, 1900 in Sacramento, California. 5 1/2" x 8 1/4." Billhead is very clean and intact except for light age toning, two horizontal fold lines, slight wrinkling, and a paper stub tipped-in at bottom on back. A Very Good copy. An original billhead (Statement of Account) from Holbrook, Merrill & Stetson of Sacramento, California to F. (Frank) Kunsting. There are listed transactions between May 16 and June 29. Each transaction has the abbreviation, "Mdse." A stamp on front shows this bill or statement was paid. The printed header reads, "In Acc't with Holbrook, Merrill & Stetson." Holbrook, Merrill & Stetson was a hardware company founded by Charles Holbrook, John Merrill, and James B. Stetson. Holbrook and Merrill originally came from New Hampshire and Maine, respectively, and began work in Sacramento. Stetson had his own company called James B. Stetson & Company which merged in 1878 with Holbrook, Merrill & Company to form Holbrook, Merrill & Stetson as an incorporation in 1882. Holbrook, Merrill & Stetson eventually became one of the most prominent hardware stores in San Francisco and Sacramento and remained in business until the 1950s.. Ephemera.
