Title page also lists the following about the company: "Industrial Distributors; Steel: Bars & Shapes, Plates & Sheets, Pipe, Alloys; Industrial Supplies: Shop Tools and Equipment, Welding Equipment and Supplies, Power Transmission Equipment, Hand, Electric Hoists, Heavy Hardware, Coated Abrasives; Jobbers for over 11 Decades." This is a trade catalog of various industrial tools and supplies. All products come with prices and specifications. Most, if not all, come with brief descriptions. About halfway through the book is a center notch in the fore-edge of the text block that leads to the Steel section. Alphabetical index in the front. A few examples of the categories and supplies listed in this catalog are Anchors, Belting, Cutters, Flux, and Welding tools. Brothers Edwin Hickinbotham (1831-1891) and John Tunnicliff Hickinbotham (1829-1893) began their careers as carriage makers in Richfield Springs, New York. The brothers moved to Stockton and formed the company in 1852. Edwin and John made wagons and related supplies that were in high demand as prompted by the California Gold Rush. Unfortunately, Edwin had to withdraw his business partnership due to ill health, but John continued the business with family members. In 1931, three descendants, John Cyrus Hickinbotham (1894-1945), Leland French Hickinbotham (1897-1949), and Ralph West Hickinbotham (1897-1951), incorporated the company, and it was officially named, "Hickinbotham Brothers, Limited." The company went on to have many years of success. During World War II, Hickinbotham Bros., Ltd. manufactured barges, cranes, and other vessels for the U.S. government. Hickinbotham Bros. eventually ventured into the aerospace industry and supplied parts for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
