Illustrated with full and part-page b/w scraperboard-type illustrations by C.F. Tunnicliffe (1901-79),and b/w drawings by Raymond Sheppard (1913-58) each credited with 16 and 18 illustrations respectively,on high quality,heavy-stock paper.UK,slim 8vo HB minus dw/dj,illustrated,1st edn thus,7-117pp [paginated]; plus [unpaginated] Raymond Sheppard b/w illus vignetted half-title-page,b/w illus frntis, title page, publisher's note with dedication to it's verso. The publisher's note: The illustrations in this special Reprint Society edition of 'The Old Man and the Sea' comprise drawings by C.F. The original work won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1953,and was cited in the announcement of Hemingway's Nobel Prize in 1954: "for his mastery of the art of narrative, most recently demonstrated in 'The Old Man and the Sea',and for the influence that he has exerted on contemporary style."
Ernest Hemingway's Pulitzer Prize-winning short novel about an epic battle between an old Cuban fisherman and a fifteen-hundred pound marlin. This is a book that demands to be read in a single sitting.[TS.] This is the first illustrated edition. It was also the last major work that Hemingway produced, written and published,in his lifetime.See my book ID's rja1172124 and rja1190624 for examples of his last novel published, posthumously and edited by his son Patrick of 'True at First Light.' for UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn(s).
