UK,small 8vo HB,no dw/dj - as issued (?), 1st edn thus.[Originally and first published as 11 individual on-board/ mess-deck magazine issues published the previous year and now collected here for the first time,in hardback form.Reprinted as a souvenir,by the 8th Submarine Flotilla.] VG-.No owner inscrptn. Publisher's original blue cloth bds with bright, crisp, stamped gilt lettering to front bd and spine and bright, crisp, stamped gilt submarie's silhouette to front bd too.Spine/backstrip inevitably sunned but no oxidization of gilt lettering, edges front cover and virtually the whole of the rear cover faded/sunned but generally bright and clean with a few minor blemishes - reads worse than it is and would appear! Inevitable, ubiquitous bumping with reciprocal creasing to head+ foot of spine; negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - three of which are minimally bumped - and clean plain white endpapers.Top edges though lightly aged/ toned, are remarkably bright and clean given the book's age (100 years old!) and particularly in comparison to the few other copies handled and seen - all edges untrimmed and some pages unopened; contents bright, tight, clean solid and sound - appears unread apart from my own collation.UK,small 8vo HB,no dw/dj - as issued (?),1st edn thus,2-236pp [paginated] includes 11 magazine issues comprising humorous, satirical articles, some poetry,chit-chat etc.,and a few b/w line cartoon-like illustrations interspersed throughout the text, plus [unpaginated] blank,half-title+title pages,an editor/compiler's (H. E. S.) preface - of which the top edges unopened. Described hard, but fairly and honestly - nowhere as dilapidated as it sounds or reads!! An uncommon and particularly scarce item.
