Maile  of LENNY holding a microphone,stood in a spotlight beside a tripod stand with '1st annual' lettering to a pale blue panel; with capitalised,4-colour (b/w,red+pale blue) lettered LE and five-colour (yellow,red,blue and b/w) lettered 'NNY' of the first word LENNY of title,remainder in capitalised black lettering and capitalised,a pale blue-lettered 'A BUMPER BOOK OF FUN' and a capitalised,white lettered publisher's credited name: 'A DAILY MIRROR BOOK' to lower edge of front board; orange spine/ backstrip with capitalised white lettering,rear board with full length colour cartoon illustration of Lenny the Lion to a yellow background and capitalised white-lettered 'LENNY THE LION's FIRST ANNUAL' in a red elongated diamond-shaped panel.Negligible shelf-wear, bumping,creasing to edges and corners - no nicks,tears or splits present - near immaculate 3-colour block (b/w+blue) multiple animal characters illustrated front endpapers,repeated to rear endpapers,but in a different 3-colour block (b/w+orange) illustrations,both sets without any hinge cracking.Tiniest spot of rubbing to foot of spine's lower,rear corner of gutter's crease.Top+fore-edges ubiquitously age acquired toning but without foxing/spotting or other blemishes; contents exceptionally bright, tight and clean,solid and sound - near pristine, ageing aside - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages corner tips,would appear unread other than my own collation.UK,Qrto HB,no dw/dj - as issued,1st edn,7-125pp [paginated] includes Lenny's introductory letter, 12, 3-colour block illustrated Lenny stories with his friends Jerramy the wise Giraffe,Mickey Flynn,George the handyman and others; 5, 3-colour cartoon/comic-style strips; 5 puzzles - scrambled letters, naming road signs with missing letters,a picture word puzzle,spotting wrongly placed items and a maze puzzle,plus a paint-the-picture - none of which have been attempted and all remain untouched,a double-page die+counter game, instructions for party games in one of the stories,another story with things to make or activities/games to do.                          Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional,and particularly internally,the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 60+ year-old-age and nature, i.e. an ephemeral children’s annual.It really is an exceptional, exemplary copy for its cleanliness,brightness, minimal imperfections and lack of major detracting faults.                                Terry Hall (b. 20 November,1926 – d. 3 April, 2007) was an English ventriloquist.He appeared regularly on television with his puppet,LENNY the LION,whose catchphrase was "Aw, don't embawass me!" Hall is credited with having been one of the first ventriloquists to use a non-human puppet.Hall created Lenny the Lion in 1954 after he visited the zoo while working at the summer season in Blackpool. Hall and Lenny first appeared on BBC Television in 1956,in a variety show entitled Dress Rehearsal.The Lenny the Lion Show ran from 1957-1960,followed by Lenny's Den in 1959,through to 1961 and then the pop music show Pops and Lenny in 1962-1963.In 1958 Bill Mevin [most notably one of the early 'Dr. Who' comic artists] created a comic strip based on Lenny the Lion.                                  Hall and Lenny continued to work in variety through the 1970s,appearing on television in kid's programmes such as Crackerjack and 3-2-1.
