Original publisher's brown paper wrappers. May have modern staple binding as repair (two modern-looking staples present near spine). Back cover advertises the 1903 World's Fair in St. Louis. No date, circa 1901-1902. 7 1/2" x 9 3/4." Eighty-eight pages, complete. Many black-and-white illustrations, complete. Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning and offsetting on first page from laid-in ephemera (original store order envelope and possibly original paper notice about money orders). Covers are clean and intact overall but are split and have wrinkles along spine (may have been loose, hence the modern-looking staples) and a few creases on back. A Good copy. Grand-Leader (also known as Grand Leader; Stix, Baer, and Fuller; or Stix) was a department store chain based in St. Louis, Missouri that was in business from 1892-1984. The store's founders were Charles Stix, brothers Julius and Sigmund Baer, and Aaron Fuller. Grand-Leader was sold to Dillard's in 1984 which also rebranded all of the Grand-Leader stores under the Dillard's name. This is a fascinating time capsule that offers a glimpse at the fashion trends and consumer habits in the United States during the early twentieth century. A variety of clothing garments, accessories, dry goods, and fashion, beauty, and household items are advertised in this catalogue with brief accompanying captions describing the items. Such descriptions note specific aspects of the featured item, its price, different colors the item may come in, and like information. Many of the items have accompanying illustrations.
