3 vols, complete set, including all 99 maps in Volume 3, in the original dark red cloth. Detailed condition report is as follows. VOLUME 1: spine faded, spine ends worn with shallow chipping at foot, front hinge splitting externally, boards scarred, contents clean and tight. VOLUME 2: spine faded, spine ends worn and frayed, hinges splitting externally head and foot, light scarring to boards, contents clean and tight. VOLUME 3: spine faded, spine ends worn and lightly frayed, front board heavily scarred. All maps are present, and in clean fine state with the following exceptions" Map 52: short closed tear Map 69 short closed tear Map 72 tiny marginal chip to fore-edge margin, not affecting text Map 82 top margin chipped and frayed; 2 closed tears Map 91 needs reapair: it has torn along bad folds: there is no loss of material. Map 96 has a jagged closed tear Map 97 This is the large general map of the Witwatersrand Gold Fields, and thus must have had the most use. It is complete, but has split extensively along the fold lines, and needs professional attention by a paper restorer/archival repairer. An extremely scarce work, by far the most comprehensive survey of the Witwatersrand, its mines and mining companies in its infancy. This is the first set we have seen in the past decade.
