First Edition / First Printing. Fine in Fine Dust Jacket. 120 pages. Landmark collection of color photographs. One of the most important photography books of the 20th century. The First Magnum Photos/Umbrage Editions Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with the Softcover Edition, which was published simultaneously with it as well as the 2001 Second Edition. The First Edition is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Paul Fusco: Regular-sized volume format. Pictorial hard boards with titles on cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Paul Fusco. Tribute by Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Essays by Norman Mailer and Evan Thomas. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with titles on the cover and spine, as issued. Published on the occasion of Robert F. Kennedy's 75th Birthday Anniversary in 2000. Presents Paul Fusco's "RFK Funeral Train". Photographs of Americans who went out of their way to pay a final tribute to the slain Presidential candidate, captured for posterity in a moving photobook: One photograph after another of Americans from all walks of life saluting the passing train, a visual elegy of rigorous simplicity and transcendent power. With Kennedy-esque sense of ceremony and solemn occasion, Robert Fitzgerald Kennedy's surviving family and followers honored him by taking his casket on a funeral train trip. It was a felicitous gesture as Kennedy was in the midst of his cross-country Presidential campaign when he was assassinated in Los Angeles, on June 5, 1968. The funeral train was, in effect, the continuation and culmination of his campaign and journey unto immortality. An absolute "must-have" title for Paul Fusco collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in metallic-silver pen-marker on the title page by Paul Fusco. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great photography book. This is one of few such signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/ First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Precedes and should NOT be confused with the Softcover Edition, which was published simultaneously with it as well as the 2001 Second Edition. Copies available online have serious flaws yet command hundreds of dollars. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. Fusco turned 88 years old in 2018, is quite ill, and no longer appears in public. A rare signed copy thus. 50 color plates. Paul Fusco's "RFK Funeral Train" was selected as one of the greatest photography books in "The Photobook". One of the most important American photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 1884167047.
