FRANCIS, John (1811-1882) : A 4pp Autograph Letter to Lowes Cato Dickinson, Signed But undated

4pp, stained at margins. On the verso are pencil doodles of profiles and a female figure, presumably by Dickinson. In the letter Francis, in a mock irritable style, asks Dickinson to write a short notice of a production involving amateurs, which due to time constraints Francis cannot attend, with a view to his then working it into an article for Fraser. Lowes Cato Dickinson (27 November 1819 – 15 December 1908) was a portrait painter and Christian socialist. He taught drawing with Ruskin and Rossetti. Francis was among other things the publisher of The Athenaeum.
