4pp, stained at margins. On the verso are pencil doodles of profiles and a female figure, presumably by Dickinson. In the letter Francis, in a mock irritable style, asks Dickinson to write a short notice of a production involving amateurs, which due to time constraints Francis cannot attend, with a view to his then working it into an article for Fraser. Lowes Cato Dickinson (27 November 1819 – 15 December 1908) was a portrait painter and Christian socialist. He taught drawing with Ruskin and Rossetti. Francis was among other things the publisher of The Athenaeum. Click here for full details of this book, to ask a question or to buy it on-line.
