8vo - over 7? - 9? tall. tidy ex library with stamps to fep and half title and a single 6 digit number rubber stamp to head of title, a little minor tape staining to bottom edges of feps, a stamp to the rear pastedown as well, book boards are tidy apart from very minor tape residue spots to the edges, DW is tidy excepting that the rear fold in flap has been trimmed vertically losing about half of its width, there are 3 razor cuts to rear panel (see photos), it is not price clipped and has some minor tape staining to the very edges at top and bottom and some faint waterstaining to the spine ends, not very evident from the front of the DW. The rare first issue with the golden gun blocked onto the front board. The binding is in fine state, the gun bright with no oxidation. The text block has edgefoxing, which has penetrated slightly into the blank margin in some cases. The dustwrapper is present, and is in near fine/vg++ state with light wear to the extremities. An attractive example of the scarcest of all James Bond first issues: fewer than 1000 copies were produced before the publisher decided o discontinue the blocked gold gun, and the remainder of the edition was issued in plain black cloth.

A fine copy in a fine priceclipped d.w An attractive copy of this scarce variant with the two-line reset 1/2 title. Gilbert (p.420) states " "This rather elusive issue was produced exclusively for export to Canada. invariably found with price-clipped jackets (as here)" . Apparently only 3000 copies were produced,(of a total of 82,000), making it the second- scarcest variant of this book after the embossed golden gun first withdrawn issue.
