A seven-page introduction precedes Ardizzone's eleven-page holograph diary extracts of adventures in Normandy with his brother and Barnett Freedman. This account was originally published in a 1951 issue of the periodical 'Signature'. This first bookform appearance was issued simultaneously with another, 'A Weekend in Dieppe' by Glynn Boyd Harte, both of which recount similar visits to Dieppe separated by a period of thirty years.
