Vicksburg, the Confederacy's strongest obstacle to Mississippi River shipping, was under siege for forty-seven days during the Civil War. During that time residents of the hill city endured multiple hardships with bravery and loyalty. Civilians were killed during bombardments and the death toll for both armies was frightful as the bitter struggle for control of the city progressed. It developed that kin were often fighting kin and poorly trained medics on both sides attempted to stem the high death rate but were handicapped by ignorance. One man tried to make things better and fell in love while doing so.. Ex-Library. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover.
