Satisfaction Guaranteed. Cyril Jolley returns from holiday to his newly promoted position of Detective Inspector. It is not an elevation he appreciates, particularly as it means his long-standing partner is promoted out of his area. The robot-like efficiency of his stand-in has left Jolley very little to come back to- except for an anonymous note declaring that the three 'suicides' in a nearby hamlet are too many for coincidence. Happily pushing aside the decision of choosing a new sergeant, Jolley departs for the feudal-like village of Chuters and its colony of ravens. There he meets the devastatingly beautiful Dolores Bayger, whom the anonymous letter-writer believes to be the catalyst of the deaths of three men. Jolley rapidly locates the author of the original note and unearths a web of gossip against Dolores. Finding nothing to undermine the verdicts of suicide, he uses his influence to stamp out the whispering campaign of hatred. Then Dolores appeals to him for protection and Jolley discovers an obsessive labyrinth of violence into which he is drawn, leaving him both as a victim and suspect.. Book Condition: Very Good.
