Cox (1824-1889) was an American politician and diplomat. He served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Ohio from 1857-1865 and for New York from 1869-1873, 1875-1885, and 1886-1889. In 1885, Cox also served as the U.S. Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire. In this letter, Cox writes to "O. L. Keeler, Esq." about how long Keeler's letter had taken to arrive. The letter reads, in part, "Dear Sir, Your letter dated last August just reached me. What a trip your epistle has had of it--journeying to Lima - 'the city of the kings' - to Columbus - the city of [--?]. I presume the object of your letter has long since been accomplished ... Your friend, Sincerely, Saml. S. Cox.". Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
