Fascinating biography about the life and career of William James Howard (1826-1924), an American military officer and pioneer. Howard served as a captain of Company A of the Mariposa Battalion, a unit of the California Militia that was organized in 1851 during the Mariposa War, and a member of the California Rangers, a paramilitary police force organized in 1853 that was tasked with combating violent crime in Gold Country.
