Pages are clean and intact overall but first and last leaves have some darkening and there is slight wear to extremities and faint dampstaining in lower corners of fore-edge. Covers are clean and intact overall but have much darkening and creasing on front and back, a small stamp or sticker tipped in on spine, and slight wear to extremities. A Good copy. A concise history of the city of Rosalia in Whitman County, Washington authored by Alice V. Campbell. Campbell used various sources to write this history including first-person accounts by early pioneers of the region, a thesis by J. E. Lindsey, an autobiography by Mrs. J. M. Whitman, and a paper by Mrs. E. A. Whitman, among others. Among the subjects included in this history are the founding of Whitman County; the May 1858 expedition of Colonel Steptoe; white settlers being at war with the Coeur d'Alene, Spokane, and Yakima tribes; pioneer emigrations to Whitman County in the 1870s; early mail service in Rosalia; the namesake of Rosalia (Rosalia Favorite, the wife of Rosalia's first postmaster); Mr. Favorite's successor, J. M. Whitman; the hardships endured by Mrs. Whitman (nee Emily Trimble) and other pioneers as they trekked across the plains to Fort Walla Walla; early city development of Rosalia; further conflicts between Indigenous People and settlers; the N. P. Railroad reaching Rosalia in 1886; the founding of noted buildings and churches in Rosalia; and the early settlers of Rosalia (most of which are very briefly referred to; some, simply by name)..
