The Head of the House of Coombe is about the relations between pre-World War I commoners and nobles. Within this book, Burnett offers commentary on the social, class, and political structures present in pre-World War I which she felt were at least partly responsible for starting the war. The story is about Lord Coombe, an aristocrat with a questionable reputation, and the events that unfold when he takes in a woman of similarly ill repute and her innocent daughter, Robin.. Book.
