rare first issue of Andre Brink's first novelle. published in Afrikaans when he was 23. the boards are worn and the spine is darkened. small tears at the top of the spine. there is a previous owner's neat signature and date. the binding is excellent. minor age related marks internally. included is a small advertisement for the book with Brink's photo stating that this is his debut. Brink went on to become a prolific author and anti-apartheid activist. his novel 'kennis van die aand' published in 1973 was the first Afrikaans book to be banned by the aprtheid government. A good copy in the original dark cream boards, upper half of spine lacking, lower part present but detached, the two boards held together with clear tape upper half corresponding to missing spine, the text block clean and tight. Brink's very scarce first novel: the first copy we have seen in the last 20 years.
