Title page: "Printed for members of the Roxburghe and Zamorano Clubs." The book includes two letter reprints from key historical figures relating to early Southern California journalism. The first was written by John A. Lewis in 1851, who would become the future editor of the Los Angeles Star, the first newspaper of Southern California. In Lewis's letter, he addresses Abel Stearns (1798-1871), a wealthy businessman who was serving as a California State Assemblyman at the time, about printing supplies he is shipping to Los Angeles. The other letter was written by Hugo Reid (1811-1852) that same year, an early resident of Los Angeles who wrote several articles on the culture and concerns of the Tongva (Gabrieleņo) people. This letter is a letter of introduction to John A. Lewis and is addressed to Benjamin Davis Wilson (1811-1878), also known as Don Benito, an American politician and significant figure in early Los Angeles history. The author of this book, Carey Bliss, was an expert on rare books and wrote many books and articles on the history of Southern California and printing.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
