Visually, the external appearance is still exceptional, and particularly internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of it’s age.It is only the minor fault described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite that,it really is still an exemplary example for it’s brightnesss, cleanliness and lack of other or age-acquired detracting faults commonly encountered in a book of comparable age. This is a collection of over forty exciting stories by pilots of the South African Air Force. The majority concern WW2 when, along wit other Commonwealth air forces, the SAAF fought alongside the RAF in the war-torn skies over Europe. The book captures the esprit de corps that existed between all the nationalities that fought on the Allied side and creates a splendid record of the many heroic actions in which the Springbok pilots fought. Some of the other stories relate flying in the border wars that South Africa fought in post-war years, often against vastly superior and better equipped communist inspired regimes. Peter Bagshawe flew two wartime tours with the RAF in Mustangs,Typhoons and Kittywakes. After the war he travelled the world as a delivery and personal pilot living a life of high adventure. He became a South African citizen and in the 1950's and 1960's he took part in many hazardous exploits including crop spraying and aerial photography. After completing over 10,000 hours on single-engined aircraft he retired from flying and is now a full-time writer.
