Steel engraving of Winfield Scott with facsimile signature (5 x 8 1/2 inch), slight water stain to the lower right corner (1 x 1 1/2 inch). General Winfield Scott (1786-1866) served with the U.S. Army from 1812 to 1861. Was in South Carolina in 1832 to pacify the nullifiers; was along the Canadian border preventing a conflict over the border; commanded the army during the Mexican-American War, capturing Mexico City in 1847.
