Third impression of the first edition, issued one month after the original impression of January 1927. 8vo. v, 281pp. Blue cloth lettered and bordered in red at the spine and upper board. A touch of light wear to the backstrip ends and to several corner tips. The edges spotted, and with some further quite light spotting throughout, in the main confined to the margins. A small area of soiling to the fore edge of the front free endpaper. A very good copy. No dust wrapper. A novel created from combining twelve pre-existing Hercule Poirot stories (all of which had previously been published in the weekly journal 'The Sketch'). Produced at a very difficult time for the author shortly after the death of her mother, and issued a few weeks after her infamous 'disappearance', Christie would later deem this the only work she produced "just for the sake of money coming in", describing it as a "rotten book". It remains however really quite uncommon, and this is a particularly well preserved example.. Book. Book Condition: Very Good. Binding: Hardcover.
