8vo. pp. [xvi], 680, [xlviii] index, 205, [i] (Celsus’ ‘vita’) + additional engraved title, three engraved folding maps (the Roman empire, ancient Gaul and Spain) and 9 plates (three folding). Some browning. Contemporary calf, blind-tooled spine, a little rubbed but sound. Two early signatures partially excised from title (old repairs); ink ownership stamp and bookplate of late ninteenth/early twenthieth-century architects Helgo and Folke Zettervall.
The first of the two Graevius editions of Caesar’s works, in which he reprinted the life and deeds of Caesar then attributed to Julius Celsus (the famous library in Ephesus was built in his honour), now known to have been written by Francesco Petrarch (part of his De viris illustribus)., Dibdin I, 360.
