Handwritten letter from the much loved South African writer, Lawrence Green. Letters such as this from Lawrence Green, VERY RARELY appear on the collecting market. The letter, dated 12/11/71, from his home, was addressed to Frank Bradlow, the Africana specialist and then chairman of the South African PEN club. Written on two sides of blue letter paper. Attached is a carbon copied response to Lawrence Green from Frank Bradlow. This is annotated by Bradlow but not signed by him. It is dated 19th November 1971. The subject is a proposed tribute to Green at the PEN club. Also included: Typed transcript of an obituary to Lawrence Green broadcast on the SABC on 17.5.72. The obituary was composed and broadcast by Denis Hatfield, a well known South African broadcaster. It includes date of broadcast, length of broadcast, editing annotations. A handwritten message is addressed to Frank Bradlow : "Don't return : Dear Frank, It occurs to me that you may like to see this. Thanks for the help you gave me - Denis". Also included: five press cuttings about Green's death in May 1972. All are in good condition. The letter is fresh, unblemished, healthy. The transcript has some light rust marks but is otherwise healthy and clean. A neat, pleasing bundle for any Lawrence Green collector, especially as they reinforce his reputation for humility and lack of self-regard. fk. Book Condition: Very Good.
