4 sides on two sheets, 230 x 187 mm, written in black ink on poor quality newsprint-type paper
Krige writes to ‘My Dear Rowland’ (Rowland Hill, "The Man on the Spot" columnist at the Cape Times, in Burg Street, Cape Town), He asks Hill to find out an address of a film director named Tisdale (he thinks) who is visiting South Africa from England and who is contemplating a film on the Great Trek. Krige plans to submit his play 'Magdelene Retief'. He goes on to discuss how little he is making from his writing: '"The Way Out" sold 6000 copies in 2 months for which I got about £110, just enough to pay my typist who typed the MS twice. A £100 for more than a year’s work which is what a smart typist earns in 2 months! I get fourpence on every copy while the man who hands it over the counter gets four shillings! What a society we live in.........' He goes on to discuss other books he will be sending Hill for review including Sol Y Sombra. He concludes, 'But I must get cracking on a full-length play. I definitely feel the theatre is my medium.'
