Excerpt from the Introduction by J. M. W.: "The readers of John Bunyan will not need to be told that 'The Celestial Railroad' is a humorous modern version of 'The Pilgrim's Progress' to the Heavenly City. ... The clever parody, though first appearing quietly and anonymously, received a great deal of aattention from the outset and was soon reprinted. It first came out in 'The Democratic Review.' ... Hawthorne's name was still not connected with it. He was not then widely known as an author, and, as one of his biographers says, 'He wrote stories and published them, but nobody knew who wrote them.'". Book. Book Condition: Very Good.
