The portfolio is dampstained; however, the prints stored within are not stained. Volume XXI shows just a touch of dampstaining to the bottom edge This edition was published under the direction of Gerard Le Prat. The text was revised, with bibliographic notes provided, by Leon Carias. All volumes, except for Volume XXI, are printed on specially made velin paper which is watermarked with the signature of Anatole France; Volume XXI is printed on Holland paper which also has the special watermark. The extra suite of prints contains all of the illustrations included in Volume XXI (contents: Le Genie latin and Les poemes du souvenir) by Louis Caillaud. They are printed on chine and housed in a separate folder. The first volume contains a wood-engraving frontispiece portrait of Anatole France after Edgar Chahine. The leading French illustrators and engravers of the day were employed in its manufacture. In addition to Caillaud and Chahine, the artists who illustrated these volumes are: Maxime Dethomas, E. Dufour, Xavier Prinet, Andre Marty, Edy Legrand, Carlegle, Roubille, Alfred Latour, Georges Leroux, Emilen Dufour, Hermann-Paul, Emile Colin, Gabriel Belot, Mirande, Bernard Naudin, and Maggie Salcedo.
