Another classic WW1 soldier's memoir, this time from an American soldier's viewpoint and his part in it. Earlier,as a 2nd Lt. he was awarded the MC for an action at Bourlon Wood 1917. He was the son of Charles S. Carstairs, who was the London representative of American art dealers Knoedler & Co.His father died in 1928,by which time both father and son were part-owners of the Knoedler's art gallery business.Returning to civilian life,he subsequently opened his own gallery in New York.
