Original publisher's white wrappers with staple binding. Front and back covers have color illustrations. The front cover shows a reprinted illustration with the caption, "Santa Ana Canyon." The back cover features a full-page illustration advertising Chesterfield Cigarettes in which a man has his hand read by fortune-teller with the caption,"Your cigarette line reads... They Satisfy; And there's a wealth of good taste in store for you." 8 1/2 " x 11 1/2." Forty-eight pages, complete. Many black and white illustrated advertisements throughout the magazine, complete. Most of the ads relate to travel and promote hotels, travel services, and destinations. Former owner's stamp with a name and address on the back cover. Pages and covers are very clean and intact overall. There is slight chipping at the spine and slight edge and corner wear. There is a vertical fold line at center on the front cover and first few pages. A Very Good copy. The California Monthly was a general-interest magazine that featured stories related to the University of California, Berkeley. The magazine was founded in 1897 as the University of California Magazine. The stories could range between research findings; news about faculty, students, and alumni; and current events in national and world news. The California Monthly eventually shortened its name to "California" in 2006 which is still published to this day as a quarterly magazine. The following are some of the articles and features in this issue: a list of schools and camps listed under "School and Camp Service," "How Long Can Life Endure?" [about the longevity of plants and animals], "Sir Francis Drake's Plate of Brass" [about the Plate of Brass that turned out to be a hoax], "Californian, 1895 Model" [about campus life], "Californians You Should Know," "A Nice Spring, Thanks" [sports section], "Editorial Comment on Leaders, a Fair, History," "Have a Good Time, But--; Medical School Faculty Members Give a Few Valuable Vacation Hints" [about how to treat medical emergencies while on vacation], and "On Seven Campuses.".
