In 1936, Albert Brenet was the first to be named \"Peintre de la Marine\" (Painter of the Navy), and later, became France\'s first painter to be named Painter of the Air and Ground forces as well.
The SS United States holds the record for fastest westbound voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the fastest roundtrip voyage. Launched in 1952 from New York to Cornwall, the ship served for the next 17 years, and was decommissioned in 1969. To this day it sits in Philadelphia.
