First Edition / First Printing. As New in As New Dust Jacket. 197 pages. Posthumous collection of photographs. Now considered a contemporary classic. Limited Edition of 4000 copies. An austerely elegant production by Jack Woody: Oversize-volume format. Cloth boards with titles on spine, as issued. Photographs and excerpts from his diaries by Mark Morrisroe. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper to the highest standards. In pictorial DJ with titles and running text on the cover and spine, as issued. Presents "Mark Morrisroe". The very first retrospective of his ground-breaking work. Morrisroe died of AIDS at a very young age, before he could realize his dream of becoming a great and celebrated artist. Many of the photographs he left behind have a raw power, energy, and vitality as well as an underlying sadness that the artist could not disguise. Mostly self-portraits, many of them are full-frontal nudes. The photograph showing Morrisroe lying down in bed with one arm raised and a bird perched on his hand is now widely considered one of the finest photographic images ever made. Morrisroe was attractive and not surprisingly, was obsessed with both the glory of the male body as well as its inevitable decline. He photographed himself up to the very end when, dying, he took pictures of himself, as frail as a foetus, a shell, a prematurely aged shadow of his youthful self. "It kills me to look at old photographs of myself and my friends. We were such beautiful, sexy kids, but we always felt bad because we thought we were ugly at the time. We believed what other people said. If anyone of us could have seen how attractive we really were, we might have made something better of our lives" (Mark Morrisroe). An absolute "must-have" title for Mark Morrisroe collectors. This title is a contemporary art photography classic. This is one of few copies of the Limited Edition still available online, is still in the publisher's original shrinkwrap, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. 204 color plates. One of the most brilliant American photographers of the 20th century. A flawless copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER MARK MORRISROE TITLE IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0944092624.
