supplied in a facsimile dustjacket that presents very well indeed. this is the 2nd issue published in the same year as the first. there is a 2 cm chip out of the boards at the top of the spine. this is covered when the jacket is on. apart from this the book is very good. there are no inscriptions and the binding is excellent. black boards with rose and revolver motif on the front cover. identical to the first edition except for the one line : 'reprinted in 1957'. jonathan Cape's 1957 first edition sheets were bound up as part of Foyle's Book Club edition in the summer of 1958. These were the earliest sheets printed, but were subsequently rejected by Cape who then sold the unused stock to Foyles. The Cape bound copies are much rarer than the Book Club sheets, The Gilbert bibliography states that the Cape sheets accounted for around 10% of the total Foyles edition.
